1.
All practising
members must ensure that their working conditions are suitable for their
clients. 2.
All practising
members must ensure that they have full up-to-date indemnity, malpractice and
public liability insurance cover. 3.
The confidentiality
of clients must be respected at all times.
Only if the client or some other person might be endangered or if some
authority with judicial power makes a legally binding demand for information,
should he member consider breaking confidence.
In such a case, the individual member shall judge whether information
should be divulged. 4.
Under no
circumstances should a client be exploited financially, emotionally, sexually
or in any other way. 5.
Members, unless
medically qualified to do so, must not prescribe drugs or advise a client to
continue either taking medication or following medical advice.
Any relevant medical information should be obtained at the
consultation. 6.
If a member wishes
to publish, in any form, any case history or part thereof, where a client’s
anonymity cannot be maintained, the client’s written permission must be
obtained before such publishing occurs. 7.
If a member wishes

anonymity can be maintained the client’s written permission would not
normally be required before such publishing occurs. 8.
The client’s
ideals and beliefs must be respected at all times. 9.
All members must
keep accurate records for six years after the cessation of treatment.
All records must be kept securely. 10.
Hypnotherapy should
not be continued if another therapy would better serve a client’s interests. 11.
Advertising should
be dignified, tasteful and should not make any exaggerated claims. 12.
Hypnosis shall
never be used for entertainment purposes, and if being used for demonstration
purposes, then it must be with someone over the age of 21. 13.
Members must take
care not to misrepresent their training or qualifications. 14.
The client’s
welfare is paramount at all times. If
a member feels unable to maintain this then the therapy should be terminated.
Clients should be informed well in advance of the member’s holiday
arrangements or of anything else which might halt the therapy.
Members should be scrupulous about keeping appointments and must be
seen by the client to be totally dependable. 15. Hypnotherapy is a profession. All members must ensure that they are professional in manner, appearance and behaviour, and shall do nothing to bring the Academy or hypnotherapy into disrepute.
